South Mountain YMCA Camps hosts over 75 volunteers from local companies for the United Way Day of Caring.

The United Way of Berks County’s Annual Day of Caring promotes volunteerism, community spirit, and unity.

South Mountain YMCA Camps was pleased to once again host an enthusiastic and passionate group of individuals from the Berks County community for the United Way Day of Caring on the mountain. The purpose of the United Way of Berks County’s Annual Day of Caring is to engage community employees and community members in a meaningful and fun-filled day of volunteer activities that bring people together to build a better community for all.

The Day of Caring on the mountain kicked off at 9:00 am with coffee, doughnuts and a camp welcome by our CEO, Nathan Brant. The list of projects for the Day of Caring included installing a split-rail fence at Bynden Wood Lodge, weeding, log splitting, organizing, cleaning and painting at the Duberstein Equestrian Center, and staining of the cabins and lodge in Pioneer’s Village. A cook out lunch was provided in the Dining Hall where staff was able to mingle with volunteers and share the South Mountain YMCA story and answer questions about programs offered at camp.

We are very thankful to EnerSys, Quadrant, National Penn Bank, Godiva, Santander Bank and Fulton Bank as well as the entire United Way team for allowing their employees to come to camp and spend the day with us helping to complete a variety of projects helping to make South Mountain YMCA Camps the perfect getaway for children, families, schools and the rest of our community. “The United Way Day of Caring is a wonderful way to wrap up the end of summer. We are fortunate and blessed to have so many individuals willing to volunteer their time here at camp.” ~Sue Kiscadden, Registrar and Service Coordinator
