Responsibilities include: supervision of village counselors and CITs in the village, supervision of village campers, crisis intervention, teambuilding, organization of village activities, parent contacts, other administrative duties given by the camp director or assistant camp director, and a cabin counselor (see below).

Riding Director

Must have at least one year camp experience, a valid driver's license, experience working with horses and in a barn, knowledge in both English and Western riding, be certified by or able to become certified by CHA. Responsibilities include: scheduling and supervision of daily operations, supporting riding staff, teaching lessons, and other administrative duties given by the program director.

Trip Leader

Must have at least one year camp experience, a valid driver's license, experience taking canoe and hiking trips, be certified in or able to become certified in Wilderness First Aid, American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and Life Saving. Responsibilities include: supervising campers 24 hours a day on a week long trip, cooking over fire or stoves, backpacking, canoeing, instructing lessons, other administrative duties given by the program director, and a cabin counselor (see below).

CIT director

Must have at least one year camp experience, a valid driver's license, and experience working with teens age 15 and 16 years old. Responsibilities include: scheduling and supervision of daily lessons activities, supporting CITs, observing CITs, teaching CIT lessons, other administrative duties given by camp director or assistant camp director, and a cabin counselor with CITs (see below).

Nurse

Minimum age is 21 years old. Must hold a current PA RN license or LPN license. Responsibilities include: arrival health checks, monitoring, organizing, and administering medications, sick or injured camper care, and managing all doctor visits. Families are welcome and partial contracts available for 2-9 weeks.

Medical Assistant

Minimum age is 21 years old. Must have EMT, ATC, or be a nursing student. Responsibilities include: assisting the nurse with all duties such as, administering medication, sick or injured camper care, health checks, and managing doctor visits.

Activity Specialists (minimum age is 18 years old)



Lifeguard

Must be certified in or able to become certified American Red Cross Life Saving and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Responsibilities include: life guarding, teaching swim lessons, cleaning and care of pool area and bathrooms, and a cabin counselor (see below).

Group Counselor (tribe leader) (minimum age is 18 years old)

Must have some experience working with children and/or camp experience, be willing to ride the bus with the campers to and from camp if necessary, willing to commute or live on camp property, and willing to be trained in certain programs. Responsibilities include: supervising a group of 10-12 campers throughout a whole day of activities, teaching some lessons, supervising junior counselors or LIT if assigned to tribe leader, discussing character council everyday with campers, issuing awards and certificates, and cleaning and care of Bynden Wood lodge at the end of everyday.

Administrative Assistant & LIT Director (minimum age is 21 years old)

Must have at least one year camp experience, a valid driver's license, willing to be trained in various camp programs, and willing to commute. Responsibilities include: assisting the director and assistant director in all administrative duties, teaching lessons, running LIT program, and supervising LITs with the help of both the director and assistant director.

The Outdoor Education Program is a day/residential experiential education curriculum that serves youth and adults through adventure-based activities.

Available Positions:

Outdoor Education Instructor (Reports to Outdoor Education Director)

Qualifications:

Background in outdoor/environmental education, recreation. Comfortable in the rustic, outdoor setting. Experience working and relating well with children/adults in the outdoors. BS degree in Education, Environmental Education, Outdoor Education, Recreational Education, or Outdoor Recreation. Motivated, team-oriented and committed to the concept of environmental education and awareness. Display the following personal traits: enthusiasm, reliability, trustworthiness, sense of humor, patience, professionalism, and flexibility.

Specific Responsibilities:

Teach any of the variety of hands-on programs offered by the department. Creation and implementation of new course ideas. Check and maintain all equipment for safety and repair needs. Report/deliver to Maintenance Department any unsafe or un-repaired equipment. Involvement in the assessment of each week's program and scheduling. Attend weekly staff meetings. On an assigned basis, be available for kitchen/dining hall duty and evening duty. Responsible for maintaining "The Shrine" in a fully equipped, neat and clean manner. Daily set-up and closing of all program areas as used. Follow all standards/policies of South Mountain YMCA. Any other duties as assigned.

NOTE: The possibility to combine Outdoor Education and summer camp employment exists, thus offering 9 months of continuous employment. Both employment applications have the option of applying to both program
